Started off the morning hitting 40,000 words on the NaNo thing. Whoo-fucking hoo, and with an extended weekend that is mostly free, I have all kinds of time to write.
Spent about 2 and a half hours getting the apartment to something like clean (benefit of having an mostly empty place-you can clean the tub sans clothing with the door open as not to get your favorite jammies all bleached up or dying from the fumes of mistakingly combined chemicals) while getting my laundry taken care of. I've got to score some more light colored stuff, if just to make washing the bits I own make more sense. Tommorrow's NaNo break is cleaning my own room, that should take about 45 of so minutes, I hope.
Then I cooked. Roasted herbed turkey breasts, basic bread stuffing, poultry gravy (using chicken boullion and turkey drippings from the roast). Tried whole berry cranberry sauce for the first time-my family's always been a jellied sauce kind of people. The meal itself wasn't too bad, though I forgot to finely chop the thyme...I'll be picking those leaves out every bite I take until it's gone. Red wine (pinot noir, if anyone cares to know) to finish it off, though I was sipping on rum-ed eggnog while I was cooking.
Now I'm all done with that and am about to continue on the novel. In other news, I'm addicted to Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel. I score the CD for 8 bucks from the Book Nook-talk about fucking lucky. I've been John the Revelatin' all over the place-including now.
Happy T-day, y'all!

Fondue kicked my ass in a good way last night.
zamiel totally rocks my world!
I didn't know much about fondue (I thought it was just cheese and chocolate) until last night, like being able to cook bits o' meat in broth in a fondue pot. That was a lot of fun, kinda Korean barbarque-like.
And thus offically ends my B-day celebration. It was an interesting experiment, and I think I might want to repeat it when I'm 30. I might even try to *gasp* host a party then.
That would be scary, wouldn't it?
Until then, no celabrations, no mentioning (well, unless I'm still working at the Department, then I'm whoring that out for the cash-on-the-collar, why turn down free cash?) and as always, no presents.

One of the high points of being "The Man", as in "The Tax Man" (as the nice people in the Training Department told me Friday during New Employee Orintation) is that you get state holidays (like today) off and paid.
At least during off season...during the tax season (between MLK Day and Fourth of July) we're working, but those holidays that we miss get tacked on for Turkey Day and Giftmas.
So it balances out quite nicely.
btw, tommorrow's my off day-since i'm doing the 4 10-hour day thing, so I get one more day of slack before getting back on the grind...it's like a mini vacation.
also, I'm getting up extra early tommorrow to get my licence renewed. Yay new picture!
in other news...i've got homemade rice pudding thickening and thin sliced veal waiting in the kitchen...I'm a happy girl!

When: about 15 minutes ago
Where: the kitchen
What: I just finished making a bit of garlicky guac for dinner and left it on the counter to grab some chips when something small and brown flashed by out of the corner of my eye. I looked in that direction just to see Simon (
fountainheadsam's cat) leaping onto said counter.
Crash! Blorp!
Green gunk on the counter, floor and trashcan. I managed to check the cat for any splatter and send him on his way (I don't think he would have enjoyed the stuff had he licked it off a paw) before nearly laughing (damn that was funny) and crying (wah! my dinner!) at the same time.
Don't worry, enough stayed on the saucer to make a decent dinner...

As of today, no more overtime is offered at work....and the last day for temps is July 1. We'll know who will be callbacks by then...
wow, all this "getting home with an hour or more of sun left" is going to take some getting used to...
in other news...chocolate rice cakes...definitely in the running for "Worst Idea Since God"
*munch*
