Apparently, the firm that Terance works for is in need of a ME, like now. This job would require flying up to New Jersey to do it, and unfortunatly I wasn't given much in the way of details, with this being a military engineering firm and all. But if this seems interesting or if you know anyone how might have a passing interest, buzz me an email at jailakat (at) gmail (dot) com.

Say what?

So, out of the blue, my supervisor pops up next to me while I'm training on the mail opening machine (yeah, send me to lead a bunch of ladies who know this shit front and back, and leave me to train myself, right!) and says, "I need you to burn your 10 comp hours in the next two weeks"

Comp hours are leave hours that I earned for working overtime, in lieu of pay like I would get if I were still a temp. Apparently you need to use them before the year is up or, or..fuck i dunno, God kills a kitten or something?

This coming from the woman who give me crap every (rare!) time I've taking time off, saying "Well, you've got to be careful, we just hired you as permanet."

So I'll be having a little mini-vacy hopefully this week....or the next..doesn't matter, really.

One of the high points of being "The Man", as in "The Tax Man" (as the nice people in the Training Department told me Friday during New Employee Orintation) is that you get state holidays (like today) off and paid.

At least during off season...during the tax season (between MLK Day and Fourth of July) we're working, but those holidays that we miss get tacked on for Turkey Day and Giftmas.

So it balances out quite nicely.

btw, tommorrow's my off day-since i'm doing the 4 10-hour day thing, so I get one more day of slack before getting back on the grind...it's like a mini vacation.

also, I'm getting up extra early tommorrow to get my licence renewed. Yay new picture!

in other news...i've got homemade rice pudding thickening and thin sliced veal waiting in the kitchen...I'm a happy girl!

I'm tired, and I'm still not doing with my worky stuff...luckily I have the procedures and the most difficult diagram done, so I'm going to hit the sack and wake up a little earlier and finish the rest.

Then I will be enjoying a four day weekend...

btw, anyone renewing their licenses had to retake the driving test?

Update on my life....

1. My two showings of AMV Hell 0 (Once at Psi U during Porn and Chicken night and once again to [info]zamiel) were successes. Then again, I consider not being lynched promptly afterwards to be a success-and good thing too, I spared Psi U the very end of the credits, but we were eating at the time.

So, anyone else care to visit the path of wrongness? I still have the burn in my bag...

2. I've moved up a bit at work, from misc. clerk to a team leader. Yeah, I know, me leading? It's to laugh. I mean, I have to talk to people to lead them, and damn if that's not fucking exhausting at the end of the day. And making decisions that affect other people than me? Yeesh...

Those appartently, I'm doing okay so far...for a job I was never even trained for...

3. And for the next 6 weeks, I'm on a 4 10-hour day schedule. My day off is Tuesday, so yay for having a day where I can get shit done. Like renewing my license before Oct. 13th...I mean, I need valid ID to cash paychecks and all...and I'm still working on getting a car...

4. Because I'm a fucking workaholic, I'm trying to leave my new section better than it was when I came in. They're still using handwritten charts...and a dinosaur of a compy. Well, guess who's been spending way too much time at home on her own time updating those fucking things on her not so ancient machine?

5. I'm considering taking a break from the work related shit next month by throwing myself into NaNoWriMo. I'm still thinking about it, but it looks like a great challenge...and I'll having even less of a life.

6. Still have no clue what I'm going to celebrate my hatchday...though I intend on doing something. I know I don't normally bother with the damn day, but 25 is a rather nice milestone...

7. I have insurance!!! I can afford to be sick...and great timing too, with this whole "I need a root canal" thing...

That's it so far...

so, I drunkenly promised to help out with Rush this year, not forseeing me catching the plauge last week and *then* having to work overtime this week.

Let me tell you a little something about overtime for permanent employees. We don't get paid for it unless we work 8 hours first for compensary time. So I could do 2 extra hours everyday for the rest of this week and then work Saturday and get 8 free hours and 8 hours overtime pay...tempting...

but I don't want to work on Saturday. Not if I don't have to, but that still means I can't help out this year, which makes me a sad jaila.

I'm a bad, bad person...

teller, bullshit, evil, quiet
Well, Day one was fun! I had the best sleep that I could ever remember, thanks to some good ole' nasal passage clearing generic NyQuil. Got up and to the shiny DOR buliding right on time to sign a shitload of papers, getting a shitload of information about healthcare option (eek! I don't even know where to start!), and to watch a few videos. One was of people wanking on how great a state job is, and the other was to obligtory "Don't Do Drugs at work video."

It got a couple of giggles from the other new hires and myself, given that the film was obviously made sometime in the late 80s. I mean, the host looked like a Hispanic Miami Vice reject. And since I got my bullshit DARE education at about the time this video apparently first came out, I had a hard time taking much of it seriously.

Duh, don't get wasted or high while at work, especially if your work involves heavy machinery, vehicles, precise desicion making, or protecting the public-The End. They didn't have to waste 20 minutes of my time showing me that.

Well then, I left that buliding at 11:30 and got back to work at about 1:45. Luckily, my boss let me have a lunch and showed me the nifty new place I get to sign in and out of. Unfortunatly, my nose did not want to cooperate, and so, I was a sneezing, snotty wreck come time to actually intereact with my fellow co-workers at the end of the day.

Luckily, one of those said co-workers had an extra Thera-Flu to spare (he'd heard yesterday that I was out sick) and so I'm gonna shower to clear the head, sip on that shit and hit the sack early.

Night!

so I woke up on Sunday with a powerfully sore throat and a stuffy head, but I assumed that I was hung over and slept with my mouth wide open, so I didn't think much of it.

today I woke up feeling worse...blah. I went to work anyway, but my supervisor took one look at me and said, "Go home."

So now I'm home. Tommorrow I go to the shiny DOR buliding at Century Center to get processed (into what, sausage? bacon? processed kiki food product?) and orientated. The high point is that I don't have to be there until 8 and with the buliding being 10 minutes away from here, I can sleep in a little bit more.

Naptime!

So, I've been keeping a secret from you all for a couple of months.

No, I haven't gotten a SO
No, I haven't chopped off the dreds
No, I haven't caught Mongolian Crotch Rot

But I have been in the running for a permanet position at the job. I applied in June, was interviewed in July (I wore a dress and heels, much to the surprise and delight of the office), and today got a call from Human Resources offering the gig.

So I'm one background check away from 19 thou a year and bennies!

Yeah, one background check...

One background...possibly perhaps maybe also a credit...check...

*whimper*

I'm scared...I mean, I haven't killed anyone or robbed a bank or not filed my taxes when I was supposed to or ever owed taxes...but...

Weekend update....

whiteboys, what I like to date
Okay, My mini vacay wasn't nearly long enough....but I'm glad I got it (hell,my lead worker told me that she was surprised that I didn't take more days off..."You work too much")

In nutshell:

Wens: While technically not the start of my weekend, Kareoke at My Sister's Room was a lot of late night fun. I love a bartender with a sense of humor (I asked for an "absoluetly filthy" martini, and she simply poured olive juice into a glass and waved the vodka and vermouth over it. After the laugh, she took it back and made it correctly...but damn that was funny)

Thursday: Rough. I woke up still drunk, and am still amazed that I made it to work on time. By the time I got there, the hangover was starting, so I drowned myself in water and Alieve. Luckily I was only working four hours...sleep, gently sleep...

okay...going to work now...will finish later...

so, technically, today was the last day of the tax temp season, with people running out the door and lots of laughter. I was so looking forward to a week or two of a whole lot of nothing.

Then, my boss comes up to my desk today and whispers in my ear, "Come into work on Tuesday".

So here I am, stuck between "Yay more money!" and "Fuck you, I want my vacation!"

I would have loved to set my alarm on Tuesday morning and shut it off with my middle finger, but I guess I'll be following it into work for Dog knows how long...

...so..tired...

and bored...very bored...

everytime I look down...it's like the fucking fleas decide that that's a good time to jump on my legs...

cause I'm not nearly paranoid and jumpy enough, apparently. Sleep hasn't come easy in two nights in a row cause I'm so fucking worried about them on my body and in my hair (which would mean a very unwanted haircut)..

and now i'm about to drop 40 bucks on a taxi, just to get to work at 5 am....

I needed this weekend like you wouldn't believe. I woke up yesterday at 9am, was so tickled at the thought of being up so *late*, that I slept for another hour.

Don't know what I'm going to do tommorrow morning...it's Monday and I don't have to wake up at 4am...wheee!!!! I might even sleep til noon! What a concept!

It's been a great weekend of nothing so far. Well, okay, I cleaned the bathroom/kitchen/my room yesterday afternoon and will be changing rooms tommorrow night, but between those two moments....blessed, sweet nothing. I'm embracing it with both hands...

Of course, I'm not looking forward to jumping back into the Overtime Monster's mouth on Tuesday. Hey, at least they pay me for the annoyance of backache, exhaustion, and dealing with nasty attitudes of various womenfolk. Office full of women, and some of them with chips on their shoulders/eternal PMS, who thought that was a good idea?

Yes, it is good that they pay me for it, and that I can come home, close my door and not have to deal with it for free....

Once again...AHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

I knew the day would be interesting when the bus stopped short this morning before picking me up, nearly getting rear ended.

"I actually saw you for once" quoth he.

Got a lot of "That's a nice pants suit" from co-irkers (and one "what belt?" which was cool), a lot of "You own other colors?", and one "you lost a bet, right?" I also developed a bit of a paranoia complex while trying not to get it dirty.

Pity this thing is so comfortable, I could get used to wearing it at work more often...but the color...I'm not a big fan of white. Actually, I find myself disliking it.

Walking through the day, I felt exposed, like everyone could see me and what I was doing. I could barely write on the bus without looking around.

Back to the black embrace tommorrow...I'll save the gi for costuming.

Shorthand for "Oh, for fuck's sake", which is today's theme apparently.

Ran out the door seven minutes earlier than yesterday to catch the bus. Today of all days, it comes on time...

My enternally cheerful, yet not that annoying, lead worker pops by my desk with a list of names.

"Now jaila, I know you want to work on Sunday, right?"

I gave her the same look Stewie gave Brian on the season premiere of Family Guy: you know, that slow neck turn/tilt/"the fuck did you say" look.

"Umm, Fatimah, it's hard enough getting here on mandatory Saturdays"

Then later, my supervisor gathers the whole office for some announcements. Firstly, we're behind. So we're going to try to do a newer, simpler form of sorting and drag people from all over the bulding in to help. Secondly, a reminder that Saturday is mandatory and Sundays are open. Thirdly, if we don't get the mail out and quickly, next Saturday and Memorial Day will be Mandatory.

Pardon me while I beat my head against the wall a lot...

Fuck it, I'm going to Dreaming at DragonHills the weekend after that. I need the catharis of running around in the woods nekkid.

Now I just need a way to get to Carrollton...
